is crossfit WORTH THE COST?

When people start looking for a gym membership, a few things usually top their comparison list:

  • Location

  • Equipment

  • Hours of Operation

  • Crowd-size

  • Atmosphere

  • Cost

It makes sense, when taking all of these into consideration, people usually try to find the lowest barrier to entry. What is closest to their home or work? Which location has the nicest equipment? Which gym isn’t super crowded at the time I want to go? Which gym is the cheapest?

But when searching for the easiest option, people often forget the one thing they are actually looking for - results.

Why are you looking for a gym in the first place?

Chances are you would like to become a healthier, stronger, more confident version of yourself. Whether that means losing weight, building muscle, boosting your energy, looking better naked, or finding a place to mentally escape for a while - your goal is results.

If this is our goal, should our criteria for choosing a gym not reflect that?

What if our decision was no longer based on

“Which gym is the most convenient to join?”

but instead

“Which gym is going to change my life?”

THE TRUTH ABOUT TRADITIONAL GYMS

A membership to a room full of weight plates and machines, that cost less than your week’s coffee budget or your next night out, might have the potential to do that, but if you’re being completely honest with yourself, it probably won’t. To get the results that you are looking for, you need to find a place that was designed for you to achieve them.

There is a business strategy in the gym world, called “ghost members”. Most “globo gyms” run this business model. They want as many people to sign up as possible, and they hope that they don’t really show up. If all of their members actually showed up regularly, there is no way that they would have enough equipment, space, or the capacity for them all to be able to workout. They are banking on you signing up for your membership and forgetting to cancel it every month.

WHAT MAKES CROSSFIT DIFFERENT

That is not how CrossFit gyms operate.

I have had this conversation many times this week. You can do CrossFit FOR FREE. You can go to the main site CrossFit.com and find their workout of the day with notes and scaling options. CrossFit has published an insane amount of free education on movements, methodology, workouts, nutrition - everything that you need to succeed.

What you pay for when you go to a CrossFit gym is more than just a room full of gym equipment or a planned workout. You pay for Coaching, Community, and Accountability.

Coaching

EXPERT COACHES THAT KNOW YOUR NAME, YOUR GOALS, AND HOW TO HELP YOU GET THERE

Logistically, when you walk into a CrossFit gym, your Coach will greet you at the door, walk you through the warm-up, explain the day’s workout to you, teach you how to do the movements, and properly scale the workout to your current fitness level.

What you may not realize when you walk into a CrossFit gym, is that you immediately find a person that cares about you and your goals as much as you do - your Coach. Your Coach might actually want you to succeed more than you do… how often in life do you really get that?

Your Coach not only explains the workout to you and makes sure that you have good form, but they care about why you are here. They care about making sure that your version of that day’s workout is tailored to you and your goals. They care that you achieve the results that you want, even if you don’t quite believe they are possible.

The job of a Coach is to take you to places that you could not go yourself.

Community

PEOPLE WHO CHEER FOR YOU, PUSH ALONGSIDE YOU, AND MAKE IT FUN TO KEEP SHOWING UP

This is the piece that people don’t usually realize they are getting when they sign up. I know it sounds cheesy and cliche, but it is so true. And you are not just finding a group of people to spend time with - you could do that at any club or gathering. But you are finding a group of like-minded people with similar goals. You are finding a group of people that are willing to work as hard as you are. You are finding a community that will cheer for you whether you are first or last and everywhere in between. You are finding a group that will begin to care about your life outside the gym just as much as they do inside of it. You will find people that you can trash talk with one minute and find yourself having a meaningful conversation about life in the next. I like to say that CrossFit is the most fun and effective strength and conditioning program that exists.

The fun is in the community.

Accountability

A PLACE THAT NOTICES WHEN YOU’RE NOT HERE AND CARES ENOUGH TO CHECK IN

Through a combination of the Coaching and the Community that you will find in a CrossFit gym, you will receive accountability in a way that you haven’t before. Not only in your Coach reaching out when you miss a couple classes in a row, but in the way that you still go to the gym on a day when you don’t really want to workout because you still want to see your friends. You will do workouts with movements that you hate and would never do on your own, because that’s what everyone is doing that day. You will push yourself harder than you ever thought because of the people right beside you doing the same.

CrossFit works — all you have to do is keep showing up. And we’re built to help you do exactly that.

WHY AMAZIAH?

I could go on and on about why CrossFit works, and why Amaziah is different — about the certifications our coaches hold, the hours I put into programming every workout, or the fact we invest in the best equipment and location we could find.

But at the end of the day, none of that matters as much as this:
CrossFit works — and it works here because we actually give a shit.

I guarantee that you will be hard-pressed to find a gym that cares more than we do.

When you walk through our door, we know you’ve taken the first step toward changing your life.
From that moment on, we’ve got you.
We’ll meet you where you are, and help you get to places you couldn’t go by yourself.
